Catching the entrepreneurial spirit

Anyone who has never made a mistake has never tried anything new. — Albert Einstein

Thanks again to our readers for their enthusiastic response to the second issue of Engage, which showcased UW Oshkosh's sustainability efforts and alumni who have embraced green principles. Please take a moment to read the comments in the "Letters" section.

As we began researching the main feature for this issue of Engage, the editorial staff wondered about the timing of publishing an issue devoted to business ventures and the entrepreneurial spirit — given the current economic downturn. However, the more we delved into the subject, the more we became convinced that the timing couldn't be better, as innovative ideas often emerge during times of change and transition.

In this issue, you'll learn what it takes to become an entrepreneur. You'll hear from UW Oshkosh alumni who have taken risks, leading them down paths they had never dreamed of pursuing. And you'll discover how a strong liberal education from UW Oshkosh prepares you to "think outside the box."

We hope this issue sparks a new idea or inspires you to turn your own dreams into reality. Let us know what you think by sending a letter to the editor or an e-mail to dediemarj@uwosh.edu.

Cheers,
Jeanette DeDiemar '88, Executive Editor

Sustainable efforts
I am proud to hear of UWO's green initiatives. Staying at the forefront of emerging green technologies and setting a precedent for successful adaptability leaves a lasting impression on graduates and the fields they pursue.

Like the new look! You help save the environment by having it online and mailing out copies only to those who request a hard copy. Great job!
— Carol (Gray) Heffner '00, Eagle River

I love the online version of Engage. Save the trees!

Fond memories
Thanks for keeping me on your e-mailing list. I was 88 last month and don't travel too far anymore, but I have many fond memories of the time I spent at OSTC (Oshkosh State Teachers' College). Ralph Luft and I keep in contact by phone, and we often reminisce about our days there.

I can't believe the changes at UW Oshkosh. Very impressive. I sure miss college life.

Kudos to CNL
I enjoyed the time I spent in the Center for New Learning program and have encouraged many others my age to check it out.
— Diane Malchow '07, Oshkosh

Engage
