Scott Revoir Profile

ScottProfileYear: Junior
Hometown: Kimberly, Wis.
Major: Nursing
Goals: To attend graduate school at UW Oshkosh

When Scott Revoir was laid off from his job as a maintenance electrician at Kimberly-Clark, he saw it not as a set-back, but as an opportunity to pursue something he’d always wanted — a career in healthcare.

“Nursing has been a lifelong dream/passion of mine,” Revoir said. “I always wished I would have pursued nursing earlier in life.”

Because Revoir qualified for Workforce Development dollars, he decided to use the funds to enter the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh’s College of Nursing.

With the funding, Revoir can attend college full time; he’s grateful not just because he will graduate sooner, but also because he loves every minute of his classes.

“The nursing program is so interesting to me,” he said. “I am going to miss the classes when I graduate. I find the professors extremely knowledgeable and nurturing. They all know how rigorous the nursing program is, and they are very considerate of our struggles.”

After he graduates in May 2010, Revoir plans to attend graduate school to work toward earning a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree from UW Oshkosh.

The new DNP program is expected to begin in summer 2010.
