Titans finish ninth in NCAA championships

Led by senior Willy Kaul's second top-four finish in three years, the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh men's cross country team placed ninth at the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III Cross Country Championship Nov. 22, 2008.

Kaul earned his second All-America award by finishing second in the 8,000-meter race with a time of 24:32.

UW Oshkosh was making its 19th appearance at the NCAA Division III Championship. The Titans won the national event in 1988, 1989, 1990 and 2002.

UWO hosts 10th championship

The University of Wisconsin Oshkosh will celebrate 10 consecutive years of hosting the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III Baseball Championship when the eight-team, double-elimination tournament is held May 22–26 at Time Warner Cable Field at Fox Cities Stadium in Grand Chute.

Since its arrival to the Fox Valley in 2000, 37 different colleges have competed at the event. Among them are seven-time participant Chapman University (Calif.) and five-time contestants Eastern Connecticut State University and State University of New York-Cortland.

In addition to baseball, UW Oshkosh has hosted the finals of NCAA Division III Championships in women's basketball (1996), men and women's cross country (1999), men and women's indoor track and field (1994, 1997 and 2001), men and women's outdoor track and field (2007 and 2008), and women's volleyball (1996).

Indoor track team captures NCAA title

The University of Wisconsin Oshkosh men's indoor track and field team captured its first national track and field title, sharing the prize with Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference rival UW-La Crosse. UW Oshkosh scored 32 points over five events in the NCAA Men's Indoor Track and Field Championships, including first-place finishes in both the 5,000-meter run and distance medley relay.

Senior Willy Kaul, who was named Track Athlete of the Meet by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association, led UW Oshkosh. Kaul successfully defended his title in the 5,000-meter run while competing as a member of the Titans' distance medley relay team that tasted victory for the second time in three years.

Second-seeded UW Oshkosh set a meet record in the distance medley relay as Kaul, freshman Nate Stymiest, sophomore Ben Wizner and junior Ben Zill ran to a first-place time of 9:56.79.

Titans play in volleyball quarterfinals

The University of Wisconsin Oshkosh capped another outstanding season of women's volleyball by finishing fifth out of 61 teams in the 2008 National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III Championship.

The Titans compiled a 40-3 record and shared the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference title with UW-Eau Claire. The league championship was the Titans' third in the last four years.

UW Oshkosh was led this past season by the play of libero Christina Cahoon and middle blocker Jacque Ray. Both players received NCAA Division III All-America honors, with Cahoon named to the first team and Ray to the third team.

UW Oshkosh's appearance in the NCAA Division III Championship was its 13th. The Titans finished second in the country in 1994 and fourth in both 1991 and 1996.
