Educational Administration

 About the Program

The Wisconsin Board of Regents approved the Cooperative Program in Educational Administration between the University of Wisconsin-Madison and the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh on February 5, 1982. The Cooperative Program provides the opportunity for educators in the northeastern and central regions of Wisconsin to obtain their masters degree in educational administration with licensure as Principal, Director of Instruction, and/or Director of Special Education. If you already have your masters degree, you can enter a licensure only program for these areas. All coursework is offered on the U W Oshkosh campus. UW Madison grants all administrative degrees and licenses.

What is the application process?

The University of Wisconsin-Madison Department of Educational Leadership and Policy Analysis considers applicants twice a year. All application materials must be in the University of Wisconsin Madison Admissions Office by April 1 for summer and fall admission, and November 1 for spring admission. There may also be a July 1 admission for licensure/certification only students. Materials will be submitted electronically to the University of Wisconsin Madison Graduate School https://www.gradsch.wisc.edu/eapp/eapp.pl. Applications which are not 100% complete will not be considered. Direct questions regarding Madison courses, certification, timetables, etc. to Shari Smith, Graduate Admissions Examiner, at 608-263-2701 or email ssmith@education.wisc.edu. Your Oshkosh contact will be Dr. Susan Cramer, Ed Leadership Coordinator (cramer@uwosh.edu).

One of the required documents is your Statement of Purpose. This document should clearly articulate your philosophy and rationale for acceptance into the Educational Administration program. Include your interest in administration, professional objectives, and career goals. This is an important document, write it carefully. A sample Statement of Professional Goals can be found at http://polyglot.lss.wisc.edu/easian/apps.gr/statement.pdf.

Once you have been admitted into the ELPA program, the UW Oshkosh Graduate Studies Office will be contacted to change your program status to ELPA student.

I'm not taking a Madison class this semester, is there anything special I need to do?

Yes! If you are not taking a UWMadison course next semester, you must enroll in their "Zero credit course." Contact Shari Smith to obtain permission to enroll before the semester starts.

Is there any financial aid available?

  • Coop students are eligible for financial aid from UW Madison as long as you are enrolledd at least half-time (6 credits). You can mix and match Oshkosh and Madison credits to total six. Contact Cheng Her in Student Financial Services (608-262-3060) at UWMadison to complete and submit a consortium agreement forms or if you have questions.
  • If you have student loans that are in deferment, keep in mind that each University reports enrollments to the National Student Loan Clearing House. Your UW Madison and UW Oshkosh enrollment is not combined. If you are at least a half-time student (6 credits) and need UW Madison to report you as such, you will need to contact the Registrar's Office at UW Madison, inform them you are in the cooperative program, and provide them with your UW Oshkosh transcirpt that shows your enrollment for the current semester. You will need to do this every term.

Portfolio Requirements

The comprehensive exam has been discontinued as an exit requirement effective Fall 2007. In its place is a portfolio requirement. Since this is a Madison program, you will be held to the same requirements and timeline as all Madison ELPA students. Students currently in the program will complete thier portfolios during Internship. Students entering the program Fall 2007 are required to take EdL 701 (Intro) where you will start your portfolio and EdL 794 (Seminar) where you will complete it. There is no mid-point check since Madison does not have that requirement as part of their process. You are encouraged to explore the portfolio requirements and collect your evidence as you proceed through the program. We will use Chalk and Wire to host our portfolios.
