About the Show

In every fall since 1989, just after the semester ended, UW-Oshkosh sociology professor Dr. Gerry Grzyb transformed himself into the somewhat mysterious "Dr. Christmas". Dr. Christmas exists for only a week or so before Christmas, and his sole mission is to bring a unique mix of holiday music to the airwaves of WRST-FM. His program features what may well be the widest variety of Christmas music heard on any radio station; jazz, classical, acoustic, new age, pop, rock, ethnic, and more--virtually every genre is represented. To date, well over 2000 CDs have received significant airplay on his show; in 2009 alone listeners got a good taste of 130 new holiday discs. Independent musicians (those who don't have a distribution deal with a giant such as Sony) are a special but not exclusive focus of the show. Also featured are any musicians currently in Wisconsin, born in Wisconsin, educated in Wisconsin, or who eat lots of Wisconsin cheese, swear allegiance to the Green Bay Packers, and have a pet badger (don't even TRY to pet a badger!).
