The Scoop: Teamwork is everything in Dragon Boat Racing. Synchronicity is more important than strength. A perfectly synchronized team will almost always beat a stronger, but less coordinated team.
The Challenge: Dragon Boat Racing is a great sport for men and women of all ages and abilities.
The Crew: A maximum of 20 paddlers, plus a steersperson (provided by the Festival for each boat) and a drummer.
Additional alternates may be listed on the team roster. Each boat must be comprised of 8 paddlers of each gender.
The Races: Every team is guaranteed 3 races. Racing will begin at 8 a.m. and end by 5 p.m.
The Captain: Each team must have a captain. The dragon boat planning committee will communicate regularly with the team captains. Team captains are responsible for communicating with their teammates.
Team captain responsibilities:
1. Completing registration and sending in deposit.
2. Collecting and submitting fee and tee shirt sizes (due July 31)
3. Compiling team rosters (due July 31)
4. Collecting team waivers (due at practice session)
5. Coordinating and assigning paddlers
6. Scheduling practice date
7. Attending captains' meeting and training session
9. Pre-race and race day registration
10. Assembling and communicating with team members on race day
