Enhancing Learning in Subject Area Classrooms (ELSAC) is a three-year professional development project offered through the Fox Valley Writing Project and the UW Oshkosh College of Education and Human Services, in partnership with the Appleton Area School District.  This project is supported by a Wisconsin Improving Teacher Quality (ESEA) grant.  Participants included content teachers and English Language Arts teachers from the three Appleton high schools and from several surrounding districts.  Below are sample projects where teachers used literacy (reading, writing, speaking, listening, viewing and graphic representations) to support students’ learning.

This presentation, The Art of Annotating: The Pathway to Analytical Reading, was created by Monica Jones who is the Social Studies Department Chair at Xavier High School in Appleton, WI.
