Findit Networks is a local, single location company based out of Kaukauna, WI, right off of College Avenue. Branding itself as a full service internet marketing and advertising company that specializes in small to medium sized business, Findit Networks has become very successful over the last several years, as small and medium businesses continue to be on the rise.
Although employing a staff of less than 10, we have maximized our time management and resources to be able to produce everything from static and flash display ads, to creating and integrating SEO and SEM components, and even to creating entire websites for clients, usually within just a couple of days to a few weeks.
Since being originated in 2004, Findit Networks is still a relatively new company that has attracted many possible investors has groundbreaking long-term goals already in the works to compete with the well known corporate giants of the internet.
Since beginning my internship back in December of 2010, I have learned more than I would have ever imagined from this opportunity, even though it has been my third internship. Part of the reason this opportunity has been such an eye-opener is the fact that I am in a dynamically changing industry (digital media and internet technology) and it requires you to grow with the organization which forces you to adapt quickly and be a continuous learner.
Findit Networks is a company that is very ambitious and growing very quickly despite the uncertainty of the economy. This requires that each employee take on extra responsibilities as the company expands and takes on new clients in other areas nationally, and even working with individuals overseas, where English is not their primary language.
Finally, having such a small company means that employees often do not have as strict job tasks or positions as they would in many large corporations or organizational hierarchies that I have been a part of. This is both a positive and a negative (as I have learned, occasionally the hard way) as it makes employees, such as myself more versatile and knowledgeable, but also makes communication less streamlined and meeting deadlines more problematic.
From these challenges put before me, I have gained a greater ability to quickly adapt and change to my daily work environment; mastering time management and prioritization unlike any position I have ever been a part of. I have realized the greater value of human capital in the workforce, and I have become aware of the many steps a smaller company needs to take to stay afloat and aggressively pursue competitors, such as utilizing niche marketing, to get a competitive advantage, even if the competition is 100 times larger than you.
Finally, I feel like one of the most valuable skills I have learned here is how to be a better interpersonal communicator. I feel this skill is so valuable because, while in this position, I have learned alternative ways to communicate and express ideas and instructions to others (some that done even speak much English) so that they will carry out my instructions in the most efficient way possible, minimizing miscommunication and therefore reducing waste (Six Sigma). I feel that this is the ultimate goal of any marketer’s career, how to effectively communicate with others in a way they will understand your message in the most efficient manner.
Whether it is another employee under you, or an individual in the segment of the market you are trying to reach, as a marketer it is essential to build a strong channel of communication to your target, and that is why I am glad to have been in this internship with Findit Networks and have began to understand this valuable tool that I will continue to build on as I progress into my professional career.
