5 Ways to Land Your Dream Job

It’s time to step out of the classroom and into the work place. It may seem intimidating; with little experience under your belt and so much competition. But with a great attitude, a lot of enthusiasm and hard work, you can find yourself in a job that is both financially and emotionally rewarding. Here are some tips to make sure you end up working in a place you’ll end up loving.

1. Know What Your Passion Is

What was it about your career choice that made you choose it in the first place? It because of a dream you had as a child, a skill you’ve developed over the years, a desire to be with people or make the world a better place? Tap into that passion, it will be evident as you go through the application process, especially in your interview. If you act like you are just there to pay the bills, it will be obvious. Passionate people are hard workers and they will give 100% because they believe in what they are doing.  Make sure you have a good answer when you are asked in the interview “Why do you want this job?”

2. Be a Go-Getter

There is one thing successful people all have in common, they never give up. You may feel like you need a rest after all your studying and homework, but keep moving forward. Make sure you let your future employer see that you are the type of person that won’t back down when it comes to adversity. Showing initiative will take you far.

3. Stay Fit and Stay Positive

Don’t just waste away on the Internet as you are waiting to get a call back or interview scheduled, stay positive and keep active. Skechers Shape-ups are a great way to get toned while walking. Walk your dog, if you don’t have a dog, borrow a neighbor’s! Take the stairs instead of the elevator. Make sure you take care of yourself and don’t fall into depression. Take advantage of this time to learn more about yourself.

4. Be Confident and Look Sharp

It may seem like common sense, but you’d be surprised by how many people show up to interviews looking disheveled and unprepared. First impressions are everything. Make sure you dress professionally, sit up straight, and don’t chew gum. Make sure you have your application, ID and any other paperwork you need neatly in a folder, you don’t want to waste time searching for it.

5. Be Friendly And Focused

Make sure you remember to turn off your cell during an interview. Shake hands firmly, and don’t forget to smile and look people in the eyes! Don’t speak too fast or crack jokes; it’s best to stay professional. Be the one to initiate contact after the interview. Sending a thank you note after your interview is a nice touch.
