This past June, Northwestern Mutual honored Alex Marchan (BBA’11) with its Target 20 Award. This award is presented to interns who perform at an elite level while aiding clients. Throughout the past awards year (May 2010-May 2011) Marchan, affiliated with the Holter Financial Group, sold over 20 insurance policies.
“Challenging times call for financial security strategies, and in Milwaukee, Alex has led the way this year, helping families revisit their priorities and protect what matters most,” said Northwestern Mutual Senior Vice President Todd M. Schoon.
In addition to the Target 20 Award, Marchan also placed 40th out of 2700 interns nationally in total policy sales, which put him in the top 2 percent of interns. He attributes his success to the guidance and support of his veteran coworkers and development coaches.
During the school year Marchan interned between 8-14 hours a week and spent his time preparing for and meeting with new and existing clients, meeting with mentors and attending team meetings. In addition to this internship, he held a part-time job and was involved in various student organizations. Throughout the internship Marchan has learned how to communicate with colleagues and clients, has gained time management skills and has acquired business etiquette.
Marchan has learned a lot from the internship and since graduating has transitioned to a full-time position with the Holter Financial Group. “It has been a great experience. The overall atmosphere is awesome and I have been able to work with some great professionals in the Milwaukee area and learn from actually being out in the business world and not behind a desk,” said Marchan.
