Sunday fun day!

We started out the Sunday with a subway ride to Central Park.

The sky was gray and the wind unrelenting but they didn’t deter us from sightseeing. We headed to the Grand Central Station for lunch on the ground as we admired the architecture and people watched. After lunch we headed to Time Square! Talk about stimulation overload! We saw The Good Morning America Headquarters, the giant Hershey’s chocolate store and multiple people having wedding photos taken. Hopefully we’ll be able to make it back during the week at night to sightsee some more

Running around the city really made Chase tired!

Sunday = Fun Day

The New Orleans group headed out early for breakfast, shopping and wandering around the streets. Bourbon Street is pretty neat!

Breakfast at Cafe de Monde. The coffee and beignets were delicious!

Our group has had an extremely adventures day but the highlight was most defiantly our visit to the Holocaust Memorial Museum. We got up extra early so we could get in line to get our tickets and were able to enter the exhibit by 10:30 am. We spent about two and a half hours inside exploring and reading the stories of the Holocaust victims. It was an emotional experience for many of us. Below is a picture of one of the rooms inside of the exhibit that featured four walls with hundreds of pictures.

After we got done at the Holocaust Museum everyone headed to the Smithsonian Castle and we ate lunch there. After lunch we split into groups and everyone headed to different surrounding Smithsonian museums. My group went to the Natural History Museum, and the American Art Museum. The other groups went to the White House, Art and Space Museum and the African Art Museum. Below is a picture in front of the Natural History Museum.

After hours of exploring we all met up again and headed to Union Station Shops in hopes of finding a McDonalds and getting some shamrock shakes. Once we finally found one they sadly told us they were out. So that is when we headed home. Now Max, Jess, Crystal and Ashley are getting ready to make tacos for dinner and after we will have out nightly reflections before going to bed.

Until tomorrow,

Day 1 in Honduras!

Hola from El Progreso! We made it to our hotel late last night safe and sound! Some of us got up a bit too early but we did some exploring of the hotel. Today we’re going to OYE for the first time, and probably starting on a mural! We’ll post again tonight! Adios!

Day 1 Recap From N.O.

Our first day went by really fast. We flew from MKE in Milwaukee to New Orleans with ease. After touching down and renting our cars, we moved into the Annunciation Mission and met the Head of Volunteer here named Albert. After having a nice dinner, we had just enough time to grab ice cream and drive around New Orleans to see some of the beautiful houses and other sights. Now it is showers and off to bed as we have to head out by 7am to claim our spot to watch the St. Patrick’s Day parade! Look for more posts tomorrow! Goodnight and sweet dreams from New Orleans!

Here is a picture of one of our rooms for the week:

It’s a tad tight but it’ll do :)
