About the Blogger- Ashley

Hello everyone!

My name is Ashley Andersen and I am the blogger for the ASB Honduras trip! I’m a senior here at University of Wisconsin Oshkosh and will be graduating in August 2013 with a degree in Human Services and minor in Business Administration. I work as a SLIC Desk Consultant at the Student Leadership and Involvement Center on campus, as well as Vice President of Public Relations of Reeve Union Board (RUB). I love penguins, cheese and the color green!

I was fortunate enough to have attended the ASB Washington D.C. trip last year where we focused on the topics of hunger and homelessness.  It was an amazing experience, and am excited to share another experience such as this with all of you!

This trip will focus on leadership and education, and I am most excited to share with all of you what we are experiencing at OYE in El Progreso. I think this trip is going to be a wonderful experience because while we are empowering leadership of youth in Honduras, the ASB trip participants will be developing leadership of their own in the process. The Organization for Youth Empowerment (OYE) is a “community-based, youth-led organization that develop the leadership and capacity of at-risk Honduran youth who come from economically disadvantaged backgrounds and might otherwise be drawn to the path of crime, violence, drugs, and/or gang involvement”. Check OYE out here -> http://www.oyehonduras.org/english

Well that is all from me for now, introductions from the rest of the ASB Honduras group will be up soon!
