Oshkosh: “Wisconsin’s Event City”

Posted by & filed under Blog, Just for Fun, Special Events.

Sitting around a fire, picnicking at the park and hitting the lake are perfect ways to spend your summer days and nights, but sometimes you need a little something extra. Oshkosh offers a variety of special events that can add some spice to your summer. You might not be here and moved in yet, but checking out a special event is the perfect excuse to visit.

Sawdust Days—June 30-July 4: Experience many cultures at this five-day event complete with a historic village and flea market. Don’t forget to check out some of the carnival games and rides, music entertainment and Oshkosh’s huge 4th of July firework display over Lake Winnebago.

Lifest—July 6-10: Head to Lifest at the Sunnyview Expo Center to experience over seventy Christian musical acts and speakers.

Rock USA—July 14-16: 2011 is the kick-off year for this event. Held at the same Ford Festival Park as Country USA (though hopefully less muddy…), this event is expected to be a big hit. There’s a good mix of old and new acts including headliners Kiss, Journey, and Daughtry.

EAA AirVenture—July 25-31: More than 500,000 people from all over the world gather at the Wittman Regional Airport in Oshkosh to celebrate the world of flight. Even if you aren’t an aviation enthusiast, this event is guaranteed to be a fun summer experience.

Waterfest—Thursdays, June 9-August 31: Every Thursday night you can catch some musical entertainment at the Leach Amphitheater located on the Fox River. There’s always a variety of performers, but if you’re not totally hooked on the music, it’s still a fun atmosphere for hanging out…and for a cheap price. I’m lucky enough to know some people in charge of the festival, so we were able to get one of my favorite bands on the lineup a couple years ago! ;)

Whether you’re big into music or just want to have a change of scenery for hanging out with friends, you’re sure to find an event in Oshkosh you’ll enjoy. These are just some of the major events. You can find so much more to do if you check out the Oshkosh Convention and Visitors Bureau website.

If you know of any other fun events I didn’t list, please share them. (I know a lot of mine are music-related!)

Hope you’re all having a wonderful summer!
