University of Wisconsin Oshkosh Police Officers have the Statutory authority and responsibility to investigate violations of State Criminal and Traffic Laws, as well as rules of the University of Wisconsin System Board of Regents. The department's primary jurisdictional area consists of all property owned by UW Oshkosh and that portion of any public road or highway passing through and immediately adjoining it. The U.W. Oshkosh Police Department is the agency of record and is responsible for the investigation of all criminal complaints originating on campus. All officers of this department hold concurrent appointments as Winnebago County Sheriff's Deputies and have arrest authority throughout the county.

The authority, responsibility, and required training of UW Oshkosh Police Officers is the same as other police officers in the State of Wisconsin. All UW Oshkosh Police Officers are certified by the Wisconsin Department of Justice and complete continual ongoing training to maintain this certification.
