During the year,
officers checked university buildings a total of 6,056 times. This compares with 8,899 checks from the
previous year. During building checks
officers will inspect physical security and will also test special purpose
telephone lines, such as elevator emergency lines, chemistry lab direct line,
“Escort” telephone, blue light phones and others. Each time a building is checked, a card is punched indicating the
date and time as well as any problems which may be located. Any problems are reported to the appropriate
office by the next business day or earlier as necessary.
The University Police
traffic enforcement zone consists of approximately 4.5 miles of roads
(including a segment of State High 110) which travel through and around a 116
acre area comprising the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh campus.
Congestion can become
high in this area where the potential for accidents involving pedestrians,
bicyclists, and other vehicles is high.
Although traffic enforcement is not the primary function of this
department, it is obviously an important concern for the safety and welfare of
the university community as a whole.
The violation of certain traffic laws is considered a crime in the State of Wisconsin. In total, 22 people were cited for such offenses in 2002. These are included in the arrest category comparison page of this report. The following list reflects the uniform traffic citations written by this department and some comparisons with past years.
