SPECIAL CONDITIONS OF ARRESTED PERSONS

The graph below shows the special conditions of arrested persons.  University affiliation refers to students or employees of the university.  Non-university affiliation refers to persons who were visiting, passing through, or others who chose to commit a crime within the university community and who were subsequently arrested.  In 2000 58% of arrests were university affiliated and 42% non-university affiliated as compared to 55% being university affiliated and 45% being non-university affiliated for 1999.  Of the 673 arrests made in 2000, 591 or 88% of all those arrested involved chemical use or abuse.  Chemical use or abuse, primarily alcohol, were either a contributing factor to the arrest or were discovered incident to an arrest.  The use of possession of controlled substances combined with alcohol was also a contributing factor.
