Stephen Hintz MPA Award

The Stephen Hintz MPA Award was established in 2000 in honor of Dr. Stephen Hintz upon his retirement after more than 28 years of service to the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh.

After joining the faculty in 1972, Hintz served as Director of the MPA Program, Chair of the Department of Public Affairs, and Associate dean of the College of Letters and Science. He is an acknowledged expert in local government, organizational theory, and intergovernmental relations. A member of the Oshkosh Common Council, and Mayor of the City of Oshkosh, Hintz has been active in community affairs since his arrival on campus. He received an “Outstanding Community Citizen” award from the Oshkosh Jaycees in 1982 and was the Executive Secretary of the Wisconsin City/County Management Associate for 19 years.

The Stephen Hintz MPA Award honors Hintz's record of service to the University, the Oshkosh community, and the State of Wisconsin. A graduating student who receives this award exemplifies the commitment of Dr. Stephen Hintz to academic and community pursuits.

Criteria :

  1. The award will be granted annually each spring to a graduating student from the Master of Public Administration Program at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh.
  2. The award recipient must have demonstrated sustained academic excellence and commitment to public service throughout the course of his or her studies at the University.
