It is common for students who are Psychology Majors at UW Oshkosh to transfer Psychology courses taken at a wide variety of institutions, both in the classroom and on-line. Often these courses are the equivalent to those taught in the Psychology Department at UW Oshkosh and no problems arise. However, students who receive credit for these courses should not assume that the course content or skill development (e.g., fluency with numbers, ethics, writing, verbal presentations, library searches, research) replicates that found in the courses taught by UW Oshkosh psychology faculty. Students are urged to talk with their advisor or the department chair about how courses for which they received transfer credit may differ from those taught at UW Oshkosh and the implications of these differences for their preparation to take other or higher level courses. On occasion, students should consider retaking a course at UW Oshkosh for which transfer credit was received if the course at Oshkosh is so different that students may be placed at a disadvantage as they continue enrollment in the major.
