Overview

For more than 20 years, the graduate program in industrial and organizational (I/O) psychology at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh has been preparing students for successful professional careers in consulting firms, human resources and research-related positions within organizations, as well as doctoral training in business schools and psychology departments.

To achieve this, we believe that students need to be well-versed in the many content areas within the field of I/O psychology and have a strong foundation in research methods. Furthermore, students must be able to apply what they have learned in organizations.

While the program does not rigidly adhere to a particular theoretical orientation, we are strongly committed to the scientist-practitioner model of graduate training in I/O psychology. Simply, the practice of I/O psychology depends on strong scientific training and rigor. Conversely, research also must be relevant and based on real problems that organizations face. For this reason, we strive to provide students with a healthy balance between scientific training and useful practical experience.

A master’s degree in I/O psychology is for anyone interested in people’s behavior in business setting. It is particularly appropriate for those with backgrounds and interests in psychology, human resources/labor relations, marketing/consumer behavior or any field that emphasizes the relationship between people and organizations.
