Student Focused
The UW Oshkosh Athletic Training Education Program is committed to meeting the needs of individual students relative to their career goals and lifelong interests. The following activities support that commitment:
- One-on-one advising sessions with each student beginning with the fall semester of the Pre-Professional year.
- Periodic group meetings to inform students about opportunities and issues within the program.
- An opportunity to join the Titan Sports Medicine Club and partake in educational, leadership, fund-raising, and community service activities.
- Progress meetings are held at the conclusion of each clinical experience between the student, program director, and clinical instructor.
- Application letters, resumes, and electronic portfolios are compiled by each student in preparation for applying for graduate study and professional positions. Students also have the opportunity to complete mock interviews with professionals in the allied health care industry.
- Observation of surgical procedures and shadowing practicing physicians are included in program offerings.
- Attendance at professional meetings, in-services, practicum placements, internships, guest speakers, and field trips provide students with opportunities to network with professionals around the state, region, and country.
- Exercises designed to prepare students for the BOC, Inc. (Board of Certification, Inc.) certification exam are included.
- Each student completes a research project prior to graduation. This is vital in preparation for graduate study.
- Students have combined their Athletic Training major with other fields of study including Spanish, Education, Psychology, Strength and Conditioning, Wellness Promotion, Pre-Chiropractic, Pre-Physician Assistant, and Pre-Physical Therapy.
- Scholarships won by students in the program include the Academic Excellence Scholarship, Chancellor’s Leadership Scholarship, Gladys Larson Scholarship, NATA Undergraduate Scholarship, Rowland Scholarship, WATA Founding Father’s Scholarship (2), and Jerry Rhea Scholarship
- Program Staff assist students in obtaining employment through career counseling and letters of recommendation.
- Students are recognized for exceptional performance with the Academic Excellence, Clinical Excellence, and Potential Awards.
- A Year End Banquet recognizes the students and celebrates their accomplishments.
- Current and Future Alumni Day recognizes past and current students for their personal and professional successes.
