New Students Admitted to Program

Thirteen new students were recently admitted to the program to begin the professional phase starting in 2007-08. Those students are as follows: Maisie Boehm (LaCrosse), Andrew Braun (Appleton), Jonathan Jandrin (Green Bay), Deb Kapitany (New London), Kara Lagina (Green Bay), Kellie Lundt (Clintonville), Kellin McKenney (Wautwatosa), Rachel Nelson (Green Bay), Shelly Pagel (Almond), Alexandria Pulvermacher (Princeton), Benton Rose (DePere), Heidi Schmidt (Neenah), and Stephanie Taylor (Appleton). The program has now achieved an all-time high enrollment of thirty-seven in the professional program.

Seniors Move On

Seniors move onSix of the program’s 2006-07 seniors graduated on May 12, 2007. From left to right: Tiffany Shadick (Neenah), Megan Goerlinger (Marinette), Evan Cherone (North Prairie), Jake Salzman (Verona), Katie Mellen (Green Bay), and Traci Smet (Fond du Lac). Tiffany Shadick has taken a postion with Ascend Health in Green Bay while Traci Smet will be working at Ministry Health Care in Stevens Point. The other four will be attending graduate school and completing graduate assistantships. They are listed as follows: Megan Goerlinger (University of Arkansas), Evan Cherone (Kansas University-Cheerleading and Tennis), Jake Salzman (Regis University in Denver, Colorado), and Katie Mellen (Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro, TN-Volleyball).

Students Attend WATA Business Meeting and Symposium.

Twenty-five students attended the WATA Business Meeting and Symposium in LaCrosse, WI on April 27 and 28. Those attending included: Beth Burgdorf, Laura Carter, Kaitlin Casey, Evan Cherone, Megan Goerlinger, Cody Goessl, Aimee Kasten, Adam Ketterhagen, Meghan Lessor, Jacquie Martell, Katie Mellen, Ashley Pheifer, Tom Pomerleau, Kyle Rabuck, Jake Salzman, Wendy Schroeder, Erin Schuessler, Dan Schumann, Tiffany Shadick, Sarah Shute, Traci Smet, Jessica Suprise, James Tonn, Cassie Wardle, and Mary Wieczorek. The seniors contributed posters to the student writing contest. Those projects were as follows: Evan Cherone and Jake Salzman: Effects of Core Stability Training and Plyometric Training on Speed and Agility; Tiffany Shadick and Traci Smet: An Analysis of Motion Created and Time Expended During The Removal of A Football Helmet Face-Mask Using a Power Screwdriver and Rotary Tool; and Megan Goerlinger and Katie Mellen: Effects of Plyometric Training and Weight Training on Lower Extremity Strength and Power. Finally, Sarah Shute (Jr, Oshkosh) was one of two recipients of a WATA Mueller Undergraduate Scholarship

Student Participates in UW System Symposium for Undergraduate Research and Creative Activity

Senior Traci Smet presented her research project completed in conjunction with classmate Tiffany Shadick on April 20, 2007 at UW Stout. The project was titled: An Analysis of Motion Created and Time Expended During The Removal of A Football Helmet Face-Mask Using a Power Screwdriver and Rotary Tool.

Program Holds 6th Annual Banquet

Over 70 members, parents, and friends of the program convened on Friday April 13, 2007 at Robbins Restaurant in Oshkosh for the annual banquet. Three awards were bestowed on Jake Salzman (Sr, Verona) for Clinical Excellence, Sarah Shute (Jr, Oshkosh) Affinity Health Systems Award for Academic Excellence in Athletic Training, and James Tonn (So, Oshkosh) Potential Award.

Students Participate in Polar Plunge

Polar PlungMembers of the UW Oshkosh Sports Medicine Club participated in the “Polar Plunge” raising over $1300 for Special Olympics. The group is pictured above as they prepare to jump into the icy waters.
