Academic and Clinical Program

Clinical Experiences

A student's clinical experiences comprise an important part of their tenure in the athletic training education program. Once students are admitted to the program, the clinical experience sequence requires 3 years/6 semesters of study. Students may have the opportunity to complete one experience in a summer if they wish to graduate in December. As their clinical experiences progress, students are given increasingly more responsibility as they acquire and perfect clinical skills. Prior to beginning their clinical experience, students must complete the following:

Pre-Requisites

  1. Professional Rescuer CPR/AED Certification
  2. HBV Vaccine or Declination
  3. TB Test (current within 1 year)
  4. MMR Immunity
  5. Varicella Immunity
  6. DPT
  7. Tetanus (current within 10 years; booster required if recent injury where exposure may occur)
  8. Physical Examination/Physical Update (current within 1 year)
  9. Proof of Health Insurance
  10. Blood Borne Pathogen Training
  11. Criminal Background Check

The clinical progression is designed to supplement didactic and laboratory study. Students are required to complete clinical proficiencies that represent the various domains of athletic training practice. The content of the clinicals is delineated below:
