Athletic Training Education Program at UW Oshkosh

The “jewel” of the athletic training facilities at UW Oshkosh is the 6,479 square foot facility located in the Kolf Sports Center. Completed in October 2003, the facility is one of the best in the Midwest and incorporates all of the needed functions for athletic training education and service. Among the amenities is a 24-seat classroom equipped with the latest technology. The classroom is utilized for both lecture and laboratory courses as well as student clinical skills practice. A Student Resource Center houses six computer terminals facilitating internet access. The computers include standard software packages and discipline specific software to supplement student instruction. The growing library has contemporary textbooks and journals. The rehabilitation area is approximately 1200 square feet. It is equipped with selectorized strength training equipment, a NORM isokinetic device, Biodex balance system, and several forms of aerobic exercise apparatus. An examination and treatment area includes ultrasound, muscle stimulation, traction, intermittent compression, laser and light therapy, and paraffin bath while the taping/wound care area has six benches of varying heights. The hydrotherapy area is equipped with four whirlpools. Finally, there is a physician’s exam room and six offices.

The second facility is approximately 800 square feet and is located in Titan Stadium. The facility serves the football, soccer, baseball, and softball teams and constitutes the clinical setting for students assigned to those experiences. Included are exam/treatment tables, a hydrotherapy area, ultrasound and muscle stimulation, and other miscellaneous rehabilitation equipment.
