Textbooks: Elementary and Intermediate Algebra for College Students, by Angel

Grades: Grades will be based on the following:

Three exams 25% of the grade each for a total of 75%

Quizzes and class participation 25%

Grades of A, AB, B, BC, C, D, and F can be earned as semester grades using the following scale: 90-100 A, 82-89 AB, 74-81 B, 66-73 BC, 58-65 C, 50-57 D, 0-49 F

No make-quizzes will be given. The average of all previous quizzes will be used to replace the missing scores for two missed quizzes. To receive credit for the take-home quiz, you must be in attendance for the entire hour of class the day the quiz is handed out and also the entire hour of class on the day the quiz is due to be handed in to me. There will be no exceptions made on these rules!

You will be assigned to a group of three or four students for at least one quiz taken as a group. You will not be required to meet as a group outside of class, but I strongly encourage you to meet as a group outside of class to study and work together on assignments whenever possible.

Attendance at all weekly classes is required. Class attendance will be carefully recorded and will affect your semester grade.

I am allergic to most scented cosmetics, including lotions, perfumes, after shaves, and colognes. Please do NOT wear scented cosmetics to class or when you come for an office visit. Thank you for your understanding.

Make up exams will be given only for a doctor excused absence or for a funeral if I am advised of the funeral at least one day in advance.

Exam 1: Wednesday, March 1 covering Chapters 1 and 2.

Exam 2: Wednesday, April 12 covering Chapters 3 (Sec 1-3), 4, and 5.

Exam 3: Wednesday, May 10 covering Chapters 3 (Sec 4-5), 6, and 7.

All exams are at 4:30 in Swart 4.

Complete the assignment for the class after the end of class and before the beginning of the next class. For example the assignment for January 30 should be completed before you arrive in class on January 31.

I reserve the right to ask the class to show me a completed assignment at the beginning of any class that I chose with no prior warning of my intention for a particular day.
