HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENTS
To be successful in this course you will need to do the assignments
and practice problems on the attached pages. Write down
your questions as they arise and seek help to obtain answers to your
questions.
HELP
Tutors are available in the Math Lab in Swart 113 free of charge. Math 103 students will also
have two graduate assistant tutors available. Get help as soon as you have any problems
understanding the material.
SCENTS
Please do not wear any scented products to class or when you come for an office visit. Due to allergies, I cannot tolerate them.
VITAL STATISTICS
This course does not count toward the 120 credits required for graduation. A grade of “C” or above is required to remove a mathematics deficiency or in order to take any higher math classes. The textbook used is, Elementary and Intermediate Algebra for College Students, 2nd Edition, by Allen R. Angel. The calculator to be used, in this class, is the TI-83 Plus. You will need to learn how to use this calculator for Math 103 as well as other math classes that you will be taking.
If you expect to succeed in Math 103, you need to:
- attend all class sessions and participate actively,
- reflect on what happened after a class ends-write some notes on it,
- do assigned work-write neatly enough so that you can reconstruct thinking,
- spend at least six hours a week outside of class on this course,
- talk to the instructor and to other students-compare answers and thinking,
- ask questions, ask them as specifically as you can,
- accept responsibility for your own learning.
