TEXTBOOK

College Algebra by Barnett, Ziegler, and Byleen

OUTLINE

We will cover Chapters 1 thru 4 with certain sections omitted.

HOMEWORK

Assignments will be given in class. These should be done before the next class period so that problems can be cleared up before new material is covered. All answers will be given so you should correct your own assignments. It is very important to do the homework daily and not wait until some later date. Things may look easy in class, but doing the problems on your own is a bit different. Keep a notebook of all homework problems with all work shown. Loose leaf is best, but bound is fine. I may ask to see this from time to time, especially if you fail any test.

EXAMS

There will be three tests and a comprehensive final exam. Dates are:

Tests

February 23, March 30, April 27

Final Exam: May 9 or May 11 ( Choose the day which is most convenient to you.)

If you miss a test, your make-up will be built into the final. I will grade the corresponding

questions and put that grade in for the missing test grade. No other make-up tests will be given.

QUIZZES

There will be daily quizzes. Some will be in class, and some will be to take home. These may not be made up, so if you miss a quiz you will get a 0 for the grade. You will be able to drop your lowest 2 quiz grades.

GRADES

Each test counts as 1/6 of your grade; the final exam counts 2/6, and the quiz average is 1/6

GRADING SCALE 94 to 100 = A 89 to 93 = A/B 84 to 88 = B

79 to 83 = B/C 71 to 78 = C 60 to 70 = D

ATTENDANCE

Attendance is expected. If you miss a class it is your responsibility to find out what was covered and what was assigned. You will not be able to make up a missed quiz. It is easier to learn and remember math if you see it and try to follow what is happening in class.
