Applied Calculus (third Edition) by Hughes-Hallett, Gleason, et.al.
Topics
We will be covering sections from chapters 1 - 9.
Calculator
A graphing calculator is required. I will be using a TI – 83+, but the student can choose a different one and assume the responsibility for learning to use it.
Help
You should get help as soon as you find yourself not understanding something in class. Please come and see me during my office hours. Tutors are available free of charge in Swart 113 from 8am–4pm Monday through Friday. You are encouraged to work together.
Homework
Homework will be assigned at the end of each section and will be collected to be graded. Two lowest homework scores will be dropped.
Quizzes
A quiz will be given almost every Friday. There will be no make-up quizzes. However, the lowest quiz score will be dropped. Quiz problems will be very much similar to the homework problems, so make sure you do all the homework problems.
Group Work
At times we will be solving problems by working in small groups.
Exams
There will be 4 exams. The dates will be announced a week in advance.
Grading
Your course grade will be based on 640 total points.
- Four exams (400 points)
- Six Quizzes (120 points)
- Twenty five homework assignments (100 points)
- Four group work assignments (20 points)
