Call Numbers

Libraries typically organize books by call numbers. They use either the Library of Congress system or the Dewey Decimal system. Here at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh, we primarily use the Library of Congress system. An exception to this is found in the K-12 nonfiction section in the EMC; these books are arranged by Dewey numbers.

Where are the books about science typically located?

Library of Congress system:

Q - all (General)
QB-QR (Science: Astro, Bio, Chem, Geol, Phys etc.)
R-RZ (Medicine; Health)
S-SK (Aqriculture; Animal Culture)
T-TP (Technology)
