Call Numbers
Libraries typically organize books by call numbers. They use either the Library of Congress system or the Dewey Decimal system. Here at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh, we primarily use the Library of Congress system. An exception to this is found in the K-12 nonfiction section in the EMC; these books are arranged by Dewey numbers.
Where are math books typically located?
Library of Congress System:
QA - all (General)
QA101-145 (Elementary)
QA150-272.5 (Algebra)
QA273-280 (Probability; Statistics)
QA440-699 (Geometry; Trigonometry)
Dewey Decimal System:
510-519
