STUDENT CLUBS and ORGANIZATIONS
Ad Club
Students interested in advertising are encouraged to join the Ad Club. It is a chartered college chapter of the American Advertising Federation and is open to any student at UW-Oshkosh. Ad Club is designed to give students valuable experience in advertising, guest speakers, career seminars and field trips. The club also judges and participates in business workshops and competes each spring in the National Student Advertising Competition.

Journalism students are urged to work for and contribute to this student newspaper, which is independent of the journalism department. Valuable experience can be gained in virtually all aspects of journalism by working on the A-T. Students can write stories, edit copy, take pictures, sell ads, draw cartoons and lay out and design pages and advertisements.
Kappa Tau Alpha
This national society honors achievement in journalism. It was founded at the University of Missouri in 1910 to recognize and encourage scholarship and good character among students of journalism. Admission to the David J. Lippert chapter at UW Oshkosh is by election. Election is based on scholarship and character. No more than 10 percent of the total junior-senior group may hold membership at one time. Students may not be considered for membership until they have accumulated at least nine credits of professional courses in journalism. Initiation ceremonies are held during the spring semester.
Photo Club
The Photo Club is a relatively young club organized by journalism students
and advised by Dr. Tim Gleason. Students share their photography for

Public Relations Student Society of America
Students in the advertising/public relations sequence are encouraged to join PRSSA. The UW Oshkosh chapter is one of 160 in the nation. A pre-professional public relations organization, PRSSA is affiliated with the Public Relations Society of America, the largest public relations association in the world. The chapter gives students an opportunity to associate with peers and professionals and to share knowledge of public relations opportunities and standards through guest speakers and other programs. Any student with an interest in public relations may become a member.
Society of Professional Journalists (local site)
Students in the news-editorial sequence and those in broadcasting with an emphasis on news are encouraged to join the Society of Professional Journalists. It is part of a national organization of journalism professionals and students planning to go into news careers. Its goals include fostering high ethical standards, safeguarding the free flow of information and recruiting talented young people to the profession. Students may attend national and regional meetings of the organization and other gatherings where professional-development seminars are offered. Other benefits include a computerized job-matching service; a subscription to The Quill, a monthly magazine published by the society; and a mentor program and other opportunities to network with professionals in their chosen field.
