Writing/Reporting/Editing

  • NextAgeNews.com — Write local stories and cover local events for the online video website dedicated to Oshkosh news.
  • American Horse PublicationsOngoing. The American Horse Publications Internship is designed for college students who are interested in pursuing a career in equine publishing. Positions available in Wisconsin, Texas, California, and elsewhere.
  • National Student News Service. Winter 2009 and Spring 2010. Promote and produce news stories that (1) focus on issues of student concern, (2) explore the actions that students are taking on and off campus, and/or (3) promote investigative journalism in the campus media. Apply by Dec. 1 for winter internship.
  • GREENandSAVEOngoing. An opportunity for journalism students to build a writing portfolio with bylines that would appear on Philly.com and Google News.

  • Florence Mining NewsBeginning mid-January 2010. Paid 12-week internship in which students will receive rigorous training in community journalism and weekly newspaper production. Students will function primarily as reporters, but they also will receive training in layout and design, editing and photography.
  • Detroit NewsSummer 2010. A 12-week program that offers opportunities for reporters, copy editors, photographers and graphic artist/page designers as well as within online operations.
  • American Society of Magazine Editors -- Summer 2010. During the ten-week summer session, students will have the opportunity to work in the editorial offices of a national magazine in New York City or Washington, D.C. Duties may include research, fact checking, copy-editing, screening queries, handling reader mail, assisting with special projects, interviewing, covering press confernces and attending editorial meetings. Applications must be postmarked on or before December 1, 2009.
  • New York Media Experience ProgramSpring 2010. An intensive full-time semester-long study/internship. Students spend four days of full-time work each week in a professional environment.

  • Fox News Channel, the Wall Street Journal or the New York PostSummer 2010. Must submit no more than 2 editorials, columns or news stories that “best reflect the spirit of the writings by Eric Breindel: Love of country and its democratic institutions as well as the act of bearing witness to the evils of totalitarianism.” The Eric Breindel award also includes a $10,000 prize as well as a paid internship at one of the three companies noted above.
  • Fox Cities and Bay City magazinesFall 2009. Finesse research and reporting/editing skills while getting an inside look at the workings of a monthly publication.
  • Student Press Law CenterOngoing. The Student Press Law Center Web site offers a list of internships along with its own internship in Washington, D.C. The internship is open to undergraduate and graduate students as well as recent college graduates with experience in news writing and an interest in media law.

  • Inland Press AssociationOngoing. The Inland Press Association is offering a new online version of its 2009 Guide to Newspaper Internships. This free service assists interested applicants in connecting with newspaper job opportunities.

  • Greatnorthernoutdoors.netOngoing. Web magazine looking for student journalists with a passion for the outdoors to write about hunting, fishing and other outdoor activities. Seeking regular written, photographic and video submissions.
  • N.E.W. & Fox Valley KidsOngoing. Write or edit stories and columns, research products for HOTPICKS and Mom's Purse, and more.

  • UW Oshkosh TodayOngoing. UW Oshkosh Today is offering student writers the opportunity to boost their portfolios with bylined news and features articles published on the University's official news site.

  • SPARK Advertising — Assist account executives with marketing communications programs designed to support client initiatives. Manage multiple accounts and services, write creative briefs, provide account reviews and budgets, and more.
  • Fond du Lac FestivalsOngoing. Event planning internship that includes writing press releases, creating newspaper & radio ads, event coordination, Web site updates and much more.

Marketing and Promotions:

  • Trimark PropertiesOngoing. Manage print and Web-based marketing campaigns, mass communications, brand management, budgeting, forecasting, market research and more for 14 separate student apartment complexes near the University of Florida campus.

  • Milwaukee Brewers — The goal of the College Ambassador Program is to find dedicated staff to participate in community, campus and ballpark events as Ambassadors of the Milwaukee Brewers Baseball Club. You must be comfortable speaking in front of a large audience, have superior people skills and be involved in student life at your university. Internship runs from March through the end of the 2010 Brewers season, with required weekly meetings held at Miller Park and the unique chance to be a part of Milwaukee-area events and festivals throughout the baseball season.
  • UW Oshkosh Counseling CenterNow through the end of the school year. Write and create Safe Campus marketing materials, including posters, brochures and post cards; work with videographer(s) to write scripts for videos highlighting campus safety; and utilize social media, such as Twitter, Facebook and YouTube, to engage campus community in safety messages.
  • UW Oshkosh Counseling CenterNow through end of school year. Design and produce podcasts to address issues commonly faced by at risk students at UW Oshkosh; work with videographer(s) to write scripts for videos highlighting student success topics; and utilize social media, such as Twitter, Facebook and YouTube, to engage campus community in consuming these resources.
  • Oshkosh Corporation — Support internal and external communication activities, post and distribute company news releases, assist with Inside Oshkosh communication pieces, assist, edit and write press releases, and more. Position would be part-time during the school year and full-time during the summer.

  • Polk Library Fall 2009. Combine marketing and social media networking skills for the benefit of Polk Library and the campus. Knowledge of social networks in libraries is a must.
  • Evergreen Retirement CommunityFall 2009. Applications still being accepted as of Oct. 19. Provide support to Marketing Department for public relations and marketing.
  • CARE and MenCARE (Campus Awareness for Relationship Education) — Fall 2009 through Spring 2010. Market and promote the peer education group that focuses on raising awareness and preventing dating violence, sexual assault, stalking and harassment on campus.
  • Fox Cities Performing Arts CenterOngoing. Coordinate and execute marketing and public relations strategies, maintain and manage database information, coordinate poster and flyer imprinting and distribution and more.

  • Oshkosh Corporation — Support internal and external communication activities, post and distribute company news releases, assist with Inside Oshkosh communication pieces, assist, edit and write press releases, and more. Position would be part-time during the school year and full-time during the summer.

  • American Red CrossOngoing. Interns will write case studies, news releases, media alerts, correspondence, presentation/speeches and more.
  • CARE/MenCAREFall 2009 through Spring 2010. PR interns attend weekly volunteer meetings and biweekly intern meeting to work on projects and programs to address increasing awareness and prevention of sexual assault, dating violence, stalking and harassment on campus. Internship is through the UW Oshkosh Counseling Center.

  • Marcus Theatres — Create ads, update Web graphics and maintain the Marcus Theatre brand in this paid graphic design internship.

Multimedia, Social Media, Web and Other:

  • UW Oshkosh College of BusinessNow through the end of the school year. Develop social media strategies and create content for both the current web site as well as for social media sites like Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube
  • UW Oshkosh Counseling CenterNow through the end of the school year.
