Scholarships
     
     

    The NEWSPA Scholarship

    Purpose
    The $500 scholarship was established by the Board of Directors of the Northeastern
    Wisconsin Scholastic Press Association to recognize the accomplishments and the
    contributions of graduating high school journalists.

    Criteria

    1. Applicants must have met their schools’ academic requirements, and be graduating in 2008.
    2. Applicants must have worked for at least one year on the school newspaper, yearbook or a related student publication.
    3. Applicants must have attended at least one NEWSPA spring conference, or be registered to attend the 2008 conference, at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh.
    4. Applicants must complete an application form [click here] that is signed by their journalism adviser.
    5. Applicants must submit an essay of approximately 500 words explaining why they have chosen journalism as their field of study.
    6. Applicants who do not meet all of the criteria due to special circumstances can submit a letter of explanation with their application.
    7. Applicants can use the scholarship money at any college or university, but must plan to major or minor in a journalism-related discipline (including but not limited to news-editorial, Internet/Web design, photography, public relations, magazines, advertising or broadcasting).  

    Selection
    The winners will be selected by a panel of three judges who are active in the field of journalism.

    The Award
    The winners of the two $500 scholarships will be announced at the 2008 spring conference awards ceremonies.
