2008 Newspaper Contest January 14, 2008 Dear Adviser, We know your students are dedicated and put in endless time and effort to make your publications something they and your school are proud of. So give them an opportunity to be rewarded for their efforts. Enter them in the spring NEWSPA newspaper competition. Their work will be evaluated by professional journalists and journalism educators, and may gain public recognition. The newspaper contest rules and entry forms can be found under the links below. Please pay careful attention to the rules to ensure that your entries are categorized and submitted correctly to avoid disqualification. The newspaper competition has five divisions: writing, design, photography, student- developed Web site and publication. The writing, design, photography and student-developed Web site divisions each have an entry fee of $10. If you enter one or several categories from each division, you pay that division’s entry fee only once. The publication division entry fee is $50. The newspaper contest entry deadline is Monday, March 3, 2008. The yearbook (2007) contest entries were submitted back in June (spring) and in September (fall) and have been judged. Winners in the newspaper and yearbook contests will be announced, ribbons and certificates presented, and contest entries returned on Wednesday, April 23, during the 2008 conference. Schools that are not NEWSPA members for 2007-2008 may submit their membership fee of $55 along with their contest entries and fees. NEWSPA membership qualifies schools to enter their student newspaper and yearbook in the annual contest and offers reduced rates for students and advisers attending the conference.
