Spring Conference April 23, 2008

Dear Adviser,

The NEWSPA Board of Directors has put together another outstanding Spring Conference for high school journalists and their advisers. The conference is Wednesday, April 23, on the UW-Oshkosh campus.

Registration will begin at 7:30 a.m. in the hallway area outside the Reeve Union Ballroom 227 (second floor). Schools that have preregistered may pick up their packets (programs, nametags, adviser materials) at the registration tables. After registering, you may proceed to the first session, which starts at 8:30 a.m.

We will again offer three different session times (8:30, 9:20, 10:10) and two keynote speakers sessions (11:00). The sessions will each run 40 minutes (including keynote speakers) and include many fine presenters. The advisers' meeting/luncheon will begin at 11:45 a.m. in Reeve Union 201.

The awards ceremonies start at 1 p.m. and should end around 1:30 p.m. The ceremony for small and medium schools will be held in Reeve Union Ballroom 227 B/C, and the large schools ceremony is in Reeve Union Ballroom 227 A/B.

This year NEWSPA will present two scholarships for $500 each to recognize the accomplishments and contributions of two deserving high school journalism students at the awards ceremonies. The scholarship criteria and an application form are linked below. The deadline is April 2, 2008.

NEWSPA will offer FREE conference registration to minority students and minority advisers. This is made possible through a Diversity Innovation Grant. The registration form is to be filled out for each minority student and minority adviser attending the April 23 conference. The registration form is linked below.

Also included is a link below for the 2008 tentative conference schedule. Check out the many sessions available for students to attend. Students are on their own for lunch. The Reeve Memorial Union offers a variety of food in the food court, and there are also fast food places close to campus on Wisconsin Street.
