Oshkosh Welcomes Back
Journalism Alumni (Fall 2002)
Four UW Oshkosh journalism alumni returned to the university to speak to students on Thursday and Friday, Oct. 17 and 18. The alum, Jeff Griffith, Greg Kamin, Jeff Maki, and Charles Monn are top professionals in the advertising business. Gaining recognition for their accomplishments, Jeff Maki and Charles Monn returned to receive Outstanding Young Alum Awards on Saturday. Having been a part of the business even longer, Jeff Griffith presents an even ore extensive story, making him a resourceful person for current UW Oshkosh journalism students. The four traveled from class to class during their visit, making presentations on how they got to their current positions and answering any questions from students.Friday presented the most exciting events as the alum onceagain spoke at classes, but later attended a more informal gathering in the journalism lounge, accompanied by pizza, soda, and countless

questions from the students. Five journalism advisory board members also joined the friendly atmosphere. The visit was concluded by a creative workshop where members of the university’s Ad Club were split into teams and given a mock client and campaign assignment from the alum. After a one hour brainstorming session, each team presented their ideas and was critiqued by the professionals. Afterwards, a portfolio session also took place. For those who attended, the visit from the alum has been one of the biggest highlights of the year for journalism students at UW Oshkosh.
