Dr. Tim Gleason, professor, joined the faculty in 2000 and teaches media photography and several media courses. He also teaches the Travel and Documentary Photography study abroad program in England and is the adviser to the UWO Photo Club.

Gleason researches forms of visual communication storytelling, and is currently working on Generation X and the American media as a large-scale project. His work has been published in a variety of publications, including Education About Asia, Journal of Asian Pacific Communication, Visual Communication Quarterly, SIMILE: Studies in Media and Information Literacy Education, and EnterText. Gleason also authored a chapter in Visual Communication: Perception, Rhetoric, Technology (Ed. Diane Hope), which won a National Communication Association award for the best research book in visual communication. He has published essays in September 2011 in Popular Culture: A Guide, and has forthcoming entries in The Encyclopedia of Women and American Popular Culture and also The Encyclopedia of American Music and Culture. He has twice won top faculty paper in media studies at the Central States Communication Association (CSCA), where he has also been a runner-up. In addition, Gleason is a past winner of the top faculty paper in visual communication at the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication.

Gleason earned a bachelor's degree in Studio Art from SUNY Brockport; a master's degree in Journalism from Ohio State University; and a doctorate in Communication Studies (cognates in American Culture Studies and qualitative/historical methods), from Bowling Green State University. He has worked as a newspaper photojournalist and won three Ohio Associated Press awards. He also published documentary photographs in Timbuktu: An International Journal Based in Wales, and f-stop magazine, as well as worked for WBGU-TV as an associate producer of News Six.
