Dear Graduates,

I am writing to invite you to join a meaningful and educational project, "Journalism Gallery," sponsored by the Department of Journalism of your alma mater.  The idea of the Journalism Gallery is to display 40 exhibits of our alumni for three years.  If you accept this invitation, your works will be mounted on one of the walls in the department's classrooms, reading room, conference room or offices.  Imagine, one day when students step into the Journalism Department, they will be immediately exposed to many professional materials provided by our successful alumni, including you.  The learning experience and educational impact from the Journalism Gallery are something that cannot be easily transmitted from classrooms.
So, the purposes of the project are:
-       To motivate our current students with your remarkable achievements.
-       To present you and your career success as a role model to our students.
-       To offer visibility for alumni and your employers to potential employees and interns.
-       To have our alumni, students and faculty join together as a team that advances journalism education.

What are we asking you to do?
With these goals in mind, we are asking you to help us by sending us one to five pieces of your works.  You might have completed the works by yourself or as part of a team of which you were a key member.  These works could be, but are NOT limited to, an advertising/public relations campaign, annual report, award announcement, brochure, creative ad, direct mailing, graphic design, news or magazine story, magazine cover, newspaper or magazine pages, newsletter, media kit, media plan, online webpage (printed on paper), photo, press kit, promotional item, research project, radio or television script, and television storyboard.

What will the exhibit look like?
Your works will be mounted on a 20-by-30-inch poster frame to be purchased by the department. The following picture shows you the posters that have been displayed for the exhibit. You will always be welcome to update the poster with new materials after it is mounted. If you accept the invitation for exhibits, would you please send us the following items?1. The displayed items (five to eight)2. An e-mailed copy of your biography (no more than 200 words)3. An e-mailed description of the displayed item(s) (no more than 200 words)4. An approximately 5-by-5 inch or a slightly smaller size of your picture

Which graduates have been invited?
You may wonder which other graduates have also been invited.  The following table shows you the alumni whose posters have been displayed or to be produced. We plan to call for 30 more alumni posters in the next two years before another group of alumni posters replaces the current displays. list check

May I ask you for a lit bit more help
?
The Journalism Gallery needs a bit of financial help as well as your assistance in providing displayed items.  I would like to emphasize that this project is absolutely not a fund-raising activity.  It is entirely motivated from an educational perspective. However, the department is unfortunately facing a severe budget cut making it difficult to independently sponsor the project. We estimate that the entire project will need about $1,000 to complete. Therefore, we would appreciate it if you could make a pledge for $50 or more to support the Journalism Gallery. Your generous donation will cover the cost for most of the labor and supplies.  Certainly, we would still be glad to display your works if you decide not to make a donation at this time.  The following is a response card.  Please fill out the form if you are interested in submitting your materials to the Journalism Gallery Response card. If you have read my previous email, you would probably agree that the “Journalism Gallery” is a wonderful idea that offers a great opportunity to advance the Journalism education.  We hope each of you will be supporting this project.

Would you please email me one of the following decisions?
_____ Yes, I accept this invitation and will make a pledge of
$______ (a minimum of $50.00) to support the Journalism Gallery.
_____ Yes, I accept this invitation, but I would like to make a pledge at some other time when it is more convenient.
_____ Nice try and thanks for the invitation, but I am not ready to join the project.
If you decide to make a pledge, please write your check entitled to “UWO Department of Journalism.” The tax-exempt number is 396076856.  Mail your displayed items with or without the check to the following.
