A sprain is an overstretched or torn ligament. A strain is an injury to muscles and tendons that are overstretched or overused.

- Pain and warmth at site injured
- Swelling
- Bruising

- Pain
- Tenderness

Self-Care
- Have your condition checked by a healthcare professional
- R.I.C.E.
- Rest – 24-48 hours
- Ice – injured area as soon as possible for 10 minutes every two hours for the next 48 hours
- Compression
- Elevate – the injured area above heart level
- Take over-the-counter medicine for pain such as ibuprofen
