Health Advocates

The Health Advocate program consists of UW Oshkosh students living in residence halls that are trained on various health issues including alcohol use and abuse, sexual health, stress management, nutrition, colds and flu, first aid, etc. Health Advocates act as general health/resource counselors. As their name says, they’re advocates of good health.

What kind of services do Health Advocates offer?

Health Advocates are available for general health information. They have bandages, common over-the-counter medicines such as (Tylenol, ibuprofen, etc.), thermometers, condoms, bandaids, etc. to handle minor health and first aid issues. They also have health/wellness brochures and handouts on current health/disease issues.

How do I contact a Health Advocate?

Health Advocates are located in Taylor, Webster, South Scott, North Scott, Evans, Breese and Fletcher Halls. Talk to your RA, CA, and RHD to find their room, phone, lobby and room hours when they’re available to see students.

Is it true that Health Advocates are helpful and understanding?

YES!!! Health Advocates have discussed many issues that occur in a college atmosphere, and they are there to help. Health Advocates are generally good listeners, and can provide advice and options for your situation.

Do Health Advocates have any kind of special training?

Health Advocates at UW Oshkosh have formal training in CPR and First Aid. They also attend three days of training before the fall semester starts as well as weekly lectures on over 30 general topics.

Can a Health Advocate diagnose my problem?

A Health Advocate cannot diagnose but they can refer you to someone who can!

Is it true that Health Advocates give out free condoms?

YES!!! Health Advocates always have an ample supply of condoms and other health/wellness products.

How can I become a Health Advocate?
