Please join CETL in welcoming Jennifer Hendryx as Learning Technologies' new Instructional Developer. She replaces Kerry Huberty in this role. Jennifer is looking forward to providing instructors with a wide range of professional development opportunities.

Starting April 1, she will begin having office hours in Pollock House on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 8:00-4:30. Jennifer is available for one-on-one or group consultation. She can assist with the following: Instructional Design and Development, Instructional Technology, Online Course Facilitation,  Objectives Based Design and Assessment,  Course Quality Assurance (Quality Matters),  Rich Media Integration and  Instructional Documentation.

Currently, there is a nationwide climate of rigid divisiveness around a wide range of topics. In this climate, it is essential to foster students' ability to participate in respectful and transformative dialogue. Come to this session to talk about innovative ways to promote productive dialogue on controversial topics. Instructors will present their strategies for teaching students the art of engaging in inquiry and debate. They will also discuss effective classroom activities and assignments that increase students' capacity for self-reflection, critical thinking and perspective-taking.

Inclusive Excellence Pedagogy

Dr. Sylvia Carey-Butler, Office of the Academic Support of Inclusive Excellence

This two-day workshop is designed to equip faculty with high-impact practices that will increase their effectiveness in reaching diverse students in the classroom. Presenters will discuss strategies by which to increase the academic success of underserved students, promote an inclusive classroom, and structure assignments and assessments into the course that provide deep insight into student learning.

Students will share their stories of both the challenges they faced and the successes they achieved in the classroom.

Highly interactive and energized conversations with colleagues will drive the sessions.

The expected outcome is an enhanced academic experience for all students.

Participants will receive a $300 stipend after course revisions.

Flipping the classroom is a national obsession.
Come to this workshop to find out what all the talk is about. This workshop will feature instructors' experiences of flipping the classroom as well as the results of student focus groups on flipped classrooms. Faculty will discuss methods of moving lecture out of the classroom and focusing on active learning in the classroom. They will also explore ways to make students accountable for their learning both in and out of the classroom.
