Teaching and Research Interests:
     Her research embraces a diversity of theoretical approaches from cultural studies, literary, and linguistic methods to those that draw on the social sciences for the study of indigenous chronicles of sixteenth and seventeenth centuries Mexico. She is currently working on a book project entitled Proyecciones y reflexiones mexica-tenochca en la colonia: El caso de Hernando de Alvarado Tezozomoc. (Mexica-Tenochca Projections and Reflections in the Colonial Period: The Case of Hernando de Alvardo Tezozomoc). In this work she situates Tezozomoc’s writings in their historical context, taking into account power relations in a colonial situation.

Recent Classes:
     She believes that research and teaching are interrelated parts of academic life. She is interested in teaching the complexities of systems of representation and meaning-making in written and visual texts in surveys, topic, or culture and civilization courses. Additional courses taught by Dr. Cortés.
