Joe Abhold, Ph.D.

Joe was born in Freedom, Wisconsin and obtained his undergraduate degree from the University of Wisconsin – Oshkosh. Joe obtained his Master’s and Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology at the University of Arkansas. He completed an internship at a consortium that included a Veterans Hospital, a State Psychiatric Facility and a Medical Center in Columbia Missouri.
Dr. Abhold spent six years as an Assistant Director at the Counseling Center at Ball State University in Muncie Indiana.
In 1999, Dr. Abhold had the opportunity to become the Director of the University Counseling Center at UW Oshkosh. In addition to the Counseling Center, Dr. Abhold oversees the University EAP services, AODA program, Campus Violence Prevention and Advocacy Program and is Co-Chair of the UW Oshkosh Students at Risk Response Team.
Dr. Abhold is a licensed Clinical Psychologist and his areas of interest include substance abuse, crisis and trauma, sexual assault, suicide prevention, depression and anxiety. Additionally, Joe is committed to understanding the developmental issues faced by college students, enhancing campus culture and student success and retention. He also does a significant amount of training and consultation on violence prevention, substance abuse issues, and prevention through the use of social marketing and environmental approaches.
