Recipient of the third annual Free Software Foundation Award for the Advancement of Free Software from the Free Software Foundation for his ground-breaking work on the Mesa 3D Graphics Library. The award ceremony was held at the Museum of Jewish Art and History in Paris, France on the evening of 1 February 2001. The award was presented by Richard Stallman.
Recipient of the Outstanding Young Alumni of the Year award from the UW-Oshkosh Alumni Association.

A recent paper "Application of Matrix-Assisted Laser Desorption/Ionization Time-of-Flight Mass Spectrometry(MALDI-TOF-MS)-Based Fingerprinting of Escherichia coli to Bacteria Source Tracking" by Thomas J. Siegrist, Phillip D. Anderson, Wing H. Huen, Gregory T. Kleinheinz, Colleen M. McDermott, Todd Sandrin has been accepted for publication in the Journal of Microbiological Methods. Interdisciplinary collaboration between Computer Science and Biology/Microbiology.
