Priority Registration Policy for Students with Disabilities

What is the purpose of Priority Registration? Priority registration enables a student with a substantially limiting and documented disability to register earlier than their usual registration time in order to provide equal access to the classroom. Priority registration time will be assigned on a case by case basis.

Who is eligible for Priority Registration? Eligible student may include those who:

  • Utilize pre-arranged support services that are time intensive and require more extensive advance preparation (i.e. alternative format texts, interpreters, real time captioning, etc.)
  • Need to schedule classes at specific times or locations to accommodate their disability

Eligibility is based on appropriate documentation of a disability and is determined on a case-by-case basis. Students may discuss their eligibility with the Coordinator of Services for Students with Disabilities (CSSD). Final determinations of eligibility will be determined by the CSSD. The CSSD will consult with the Registrar or his/her designee as well as other appropriate faculty, staff, or community members as needed and in accordance with state and federal confidentiality laws.

Are Special Students eligible for Priority Registration? Special students who utilize pre-arranged support services that are time intensive (see examples above) may be eligible for priority registration. Among the pool of non-degree seeking students, they will register immediately after freshmen have registered.

What do I need to do to ensure that I receive Priority Registration each semester? Your name will be given to the Registrar while your Accommodation Recommendation Form (ARF) is active. You will only need to contact Disability Services if your enrollment time does not reflect the accommodation.

Could I lose the Priority Registration service? Yes. Students who do not submit timely requests for alternative format texts, interpreters, real time captioning, and other time intensive advance preparation accommodations may lose Priority Registration.

Will Priority Registration exempt me from other Registration requirements?  No. Priority Registration does not exempt students from meeting general registration requirements for their college or the University (i.e. prerequisites, academic holds, deadlines, etc.). Please carefully review registration instructions found in the Timetable and Bulletin.

Who do I contact to apply for Priority Registration or if I have questions? The Coordinator of Services for Students with Disabilities at the contact points listed below.
