How do I make a quiz available to students?

Instructors need to follow a few basic steps so that students can access and take quizzes.

Written Instructions

Note: A quiz that is "inactive" (it will say inactive to the right of the title) cannot be viewed by students. Instructors must make a quiz active for students to view, access and complete a quiz.

  1. Login to D2L.
  2. From the Navigation bar, click Other Tools, then click Quizzes.
  3. Click on blue title of the quiz.
  4. In the "Restrictions" tab:
    • Status: This MUST be marked Active or students will NOT be able to view the quiz at all.
    • active/inactive quiz
    • Dates: Instructors can adjust the time that the quiz is active/ available. Click the start and end date box and select the desired times. Click Display in Calendar and the quiz will appear in the D2L Calendar. (Note: The status MUST be Active for this to work.) For more information on the calendar, see How do I set due dates for homework posted in D2L?
    • Additional Release Conditions: This means that students must complete a variety of tasks prior to seeing the quiz.  If students do not meet whatever requirements selected under Create and Attach, they will not be able to view or take the quiz.
    • Optional Advanced Restrictions: Instructors can create a password or enter their IP address so that others may or may not be able to edit this quiz as well.
    • Timing: Give a time limit and a grace period to the quiz.
    • Late Submissions: Select one option for student quizzes that exceed the time limit.
    • Advanced Availability: If someone should need access to the quiz, select one of the options and Add Users to Special Access so they can access the quiz.
  5. Click Save and Close.
  6. Verify that the quiz is active by making sure "(inactive)" does not appear next to the quiz title.
