How do I add sections and questions to a quiz?

Instructors can create a unique quiz within D2L by following these steps.

Creating a Quiz

Once a quiz has been created, it will appear in the list of quizzes in the "Manage Quizzes" tab.

Importing Quiz Questions

  1. Click on the desired quiz title.
  2. In the "Layout/Questions" tab, click Add/Edit Questions.
  3. Click Import. 
  4. Select the Import Source and Source File.
  5. Click Save.

    A Quiz With Multiple Sections

    1. From the navigation bar, click Other Tools, then Quizzes.
    2. Click on the desired quiz.
    3. Click on the Layout/Questions tab.
    4. Click Add/Edit Questions.
    5. Click New.
    6. Click Section.
    7. Give the section a name.
    8. Add the optional messages and images if desired.
    9. Select the desired display options.
    10. Click Save.
    11. A list of sections will appear. To add questions to a section, click on the blue title of the desired section, then click New and the desired question type. Create the question and click Save and New to add another question.


    A Quiz Without Sections:

    1. From the navigation bar, click Other Tools, then Quizzes.
    2. Click on the desired quiz.
    3. Click on the Layout/Questions tab.
    4. Click Add/Edit Questions.
    5. Click New.
    6. Select the desired question type.  Below lists the unique steps that the various question types contain:
     

    True or False Questions 

    1. Name: Optional to give the question a title.
    2. Points: Decide how many points the questions is worth.
    3. Difficulty: Optional to give the question a difficulty rating from lowest to highest, 1 to 5.
    4. Question Text: Type the question in the text editor box.
    5. Image: Optional to add an image to this question.
    6. Description: Optional description to add to the image.
    7. Enumeration: Optional to enumerate a series of questions.
    8. Style: Decide whether the answers will appear vertically, horizontally, or from a drop-down menu.
    9. Value Weight (%): Add a weight value to the correct answer in the number box provided. 
    10. Feedback: Optional to give feedback on why a question is either true or false.  
    11. Click Save.

     

    Multiple Choice/Select Questions

     

     Multiple Choice Question (MC)

    1. Name: Optional to give the question a title.
    2. Points: Decide how many points the questions is worth.
    3. Difficulty: Optional to give the question a difficulty rating from lowest to highest, 1 to 5.
    4. Question Text: Type the question in the text editor box.
    5. Image: Optional to add an image to this question.
    6. Description: Optional description to add to the image.
    7. Enumeration: Optional to enumerate a series of questions.
    8. Style: Decide whether the answers will appear vertically, horizontally, or from a drop-down menu.
    9. Randomize options: Click the check box if the possible answers are listed randomly.
    10. Add Option: Click the Add Option button to add more possible choices.
    11. Value Column: In the boxes provided, give the answer choices. 
    12. Weight (%): Add a weight value to the correct answer in the number box provided. 
    13. Feedback: Optional to give feedback on why a question is correct or incorrect.  
    14. Click Save.


    Multi-Select Question (M-S)

    1. Name: Optional to give the question a title.
    2. Points: Decide how many points the questions is worth.
    3. Difficulty: Optional to give the question a difficulty rating from lowest to highest, 1 to 5.
    4. Question Text: Type the question in the text editor box.
    5. Image: Optional to add an image to this question.
    6. Description: Optional description to add to the image.
    7. Enumeration: Optional to enumerate a series of questions.
    8. Style: Decide whether the answers will appear vertically, horizontally, or from a drop-down menu.
    9. Grading: Decide whether the answer will be graded by all or nothing, right minus wrong, or correct answers.
    10. Add Option: Click the Add Option button to add more possible choices.
    11. Value Column: In the boxes provided, give the answer choices. 
    12. Correct: Mark the check boxes that contain the correct answers.   
    13. Feedback: Optional to give feedback on why a question is correct or incorrect.  
    14. Click Save.


    Fill in the Blank Questions

    1. Name: Optional to give the question a title.
    2. Points: Decide how many points the questions is worth.
    3. Difficulty: Optional to give the question a difficulty rating from lowest to highest, 1 to 5.
    4. Question Text: Type the question in the text editor box.
    5. Image: Optional to add an image to this question.
    6. Description: Optional description to add to the image.
    7. Add Blank: If additional blank spaces are desired, click the Add Blank button.
    8. Add Text: If additional text boxes are desired, click the Add Text button.
    9. First Text Box: Add the beginning of the sentence in the text box provided.
    10. Blank #1: 
      • Size: Choose a font size.
      • Add Answer: Click this button if more than one option is desired or available to students.
      • Answer Column: Type in the answer in the text box provided.
      • Weight (%) Column:  Add a weight value to the correct answer in the number box provided. 
      • Evaluation Column: Decide if the answer is evaluated on case insensitive, case sensitive, or regular expression.
    11. Second Text Box: Add the ending of the sentence in the text box provided.
    12. ADD PICTURE HERE
    13. Click Save.

    Matching Questions

    1. Name: Optional to give the question a title.
    2. Points: Decide how many points the questions is worth.
    3. Difficulty: Optional to give the question a difficulty rating from lowest to highest, 1 to 5.
    4. Question Text: Type the question in the text editor box.
    5. Image: Optional to add an image to this question.
    6. Description: Optional description to add to the image.
    7. Grading: Decide if the question will be graded by equally weighted, all or nothing, or right minus wrong.
    8. Add Choice: If additional blank spaces are desired, click the Add Choice button.
    9. Choices: Type the words/phrases/sentences in the text editor boxes provided.
    10. Add Match: If additional blank spaces are desired, click the Add Match button.
    11. Matches: Type the words/phrases/sentences in the text editor boxes provided for students to match the choices to.
    12. Correct Choice Column: Here each match must be properly labeled to the choices above. If choice #1 matches to match #2, it must be adjusted as such in each of the Correct Choice Column drop down menus.
    13. ADD PICTURE HERE
    14. Click Save.

     

     

    Short Answer and Essay Questions


    Long Answer Question (LA)

    1. Name: Optional to give the question a title.
    2. Points: Decide how many points the questions is worth.
    3. Difficulty: Optional to give the question a difficulty rating from lowest to highest, 1 to 5.
    4. Question Text: Type the question in the text editor box.
    5. Image: Optional to add an image to this question.
    6. Description: Optional description to add to the image.
    7. Input box: Decide how big the box is for the answer. 
    8. Answer Key: Type the answer in this box for grading purposes. 
    9. Click Save.


    Short Answer Question (SA)

    1. Name: Optional to give the question a title.
    2. Points: Decide how many points the questions is worth.
    3. Difficulty: Optional to give the question a difficulty rating from lowest to highest, 1 to 5.
    4. Question Text: Type the question in the text editor box.
    5. Image: Optional to add an image to this question.
    6. Description: Optional description to add to the image.
    7. Add Blank: If additional blank spaces are desired, click the Add Blank button.
    8. ADD PICTURE HERE
    9. Click Save.

    Multi-Short Answer Question (MSA)

    1. Name: Optional to give the question a title.
    2. Points: Decide how many points the questions is worth.
    3. Difficulty: Optional to give the question a difficulty rating from lowest to highest, 1 to 5.
    4. Question Text: Type the question in the text editor box.
    5. Image: Optional to add an image to this question.
    6. Description: Optional description to add to the image.
    7. Input boxes: Decide how big the boxes are for the answers. 
    8. Answer Column:  In the boxes provided, add in answers. 
    9. Weight (%) Column: The weight is distributed and can be edited as desired.
    10. Evaluation Column: Decide if the answer is evaluated on case insensitive, case sensitive, or regular expression.
    11. Click Save.
