Who are stalkers?
Stalkers can be anyone… another student, a co-worker, an ex- boyfriend, spouse or a stranger. Most stalking involves a person with whom the victim has had a friendship or romantic relationship. Sometimes the relationship included domestic violence and other times there is no history of violence. In all cases, stalkers try to control every aspect of their victims' lives. The victim becomes the stalker's source of self-esteem, and the loss of the relationship becomes the stalker's greatest fear. Some warning signs might include:
- Someone who tries to make you feel guilty or accuses you of being uptight if you resist his/her unwanted advances.
- Someone who ignores your personal space boundaries.
- Someone who does not listen to you, ignores what you say, talks over you or pretends not to hear you.
- Someone who does what he/she wants regardless of what you want.
