No, you can't always avoid being raped, however there are some things that you can do to avoid situations that may lead to rape.
- Set sexual limits. It is your body and no one has the right to force you to do anything you do not want to do.
- Be firm and forceful. Do not worry about being polite. Passivity may be interpreted as permission.
- Listen to your internal feelings and reactions. Be aware of situations in which you feel uncomfortable and take action immediately.
- Avoid secluded places where you are vulnerable.
- Do not accept open or poured drinks or leave your drink unattended because a perpetrator can use the opportunity to add drugs such as Rohypnol or GHB. Be alert to the behavior of friends; anyone appearing disproportionately inebriated in relation to the amount of alcohol consumed may be in danger.
