Classified Staff Leadership Series

The Classified Staff Advisory Council is proud to sponsor the Classified Staff Staff Leadership Series.

The original program, entitled the Team-building & Personal Development Program, began in 2004 and consisted of eight interactive workshops led by guest speakers. Each year, approximately 25 classified staff members were selected to participante in workshops covering skills such as self-management, change adaptation, effective communication, work environments, problem solving and leadership. The program culminated with a recognition dinner for participants and their family members, supervisors, and included all of the guest speakers.

The program has been restructured for the 2008-2009 academic year and renamed the Classified Staff Leadership Series. The following is an outline of the series:

Sept 25, 2008 --- 1st full meeting   8:30-11:30 am
                        Beth Heuer, leadership & work/life balance
Form teams, meet mentor, initiate ground rules

Oct 9 ---  8:30-11:30 am.  –  Individual communication styles
                        Pat Nichols  -- What color are YOU?

Nov 13 --- 8:30-11:30 am – Leadership and Ethics
                        Daryl Sims (be a leader!), and ethics
                       
December --- NO meeting – read book: Leadership Secrets of Santa Claus
                                    (getting things done in your “workshop” all year long)

Jan 15, 2009 – 8:30-11:30 am -- Leadership
                        Santa book discussion, Michael Ford and Fred Yeo

Jan 29 – 8:30-11:30 am -- Communication
                        Jane Wypiszynski, (8:30-Communications Fest!), and
Major Wagner (10:30) – effective communication

Feb 12 --- 8:30-11:30 am – Decision Making
                        Perry Rettig (8:30 am) & Chancellor (9:45am)
                                    (2 styles of decision making)

March 12 --- 8:30-11:30 am, Conflict
                         Bryan Bain
 Art Rathjen  -- community interaction
            Book -- “Getting things done when not in charge”

April 9 --- 8:30-11:30 am – Different types of Leadership
                        Discuss book, Classified Staff panel, HR goals

May 7 ---  2:30  Final session (reception), Pollack House
                        Participants, supervisors and guests

June 4 --- CSDAD, participant recognition at opening
