July 2005 STAR Award Recipient

Mary Cook, Dean's Assistant
College of Nursing
|
Mary just recently began in the College of Nursing
and has embraced a swift learning curve. She has done it with
grace, humor, and a dedication to the CON, its faculty, and
its staff. She has spent countless hours coming in early and
staying late to make sure that not only is she successful but
also the CON, according to Brenda Garza, CON Program Assistant.
With the retirement of Dean Knox, Interim Dean Smith decided
to go ahead with the office renovation. Mary not only is still
learning her new position, but she took on the entire renovation
project without hesitation. Her coordination efforts have been
astounding. She pulled everything together from where do we
store files, to directing the painters, the furniture crew,
and the communications crew, while relocating three office staff
and two administrators who would not have offices during this
time. Mary took all the pressure off of the staff so that we
could do our jobs, even though it meant twice as much work for
her. She has been a positive force through this entire project.
